Pediatric Dermatology

The Pediatric Dermatology Center is devoted to the diagnosis, treatment, and research of skin disorders in children and the management of cutaneous problems amenable to laser therapy.

Every effort is made to assist the referring physician in evaluating the special needs of children with skin disease. Emphasis is placed on educating the patient and family about the nature and treatment of each dermatologic condition.

Some of the skin disorders treated include:

- acne
- atopic dermatitis
- alopecia areata
- blistering dermatoses
- cutaneous infections and infestations
- genodermatoses
- hemangiomas
- port wine strains
- psoriasis
- urticaria
- warts (common, plantar, genital)

Additional diagnostic and therapeutic services include:

- KOH preparation and fungal cultures
- Tzanck preparation for viral infection
- diagnostic and excisional skin biopsies
- cryotherapy

The Center also will help coordinate the services of other specialties involved in skin care, including genetics, plastic surgery, pediatric surgery, gastroenterology, oral surgery, and infectious diseases.

We are also involved in a collaborative Dermatology Web Atlas project with the Department of Pediatrics.
